An Itch to Ditch our Co-Lo and Move to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Platform

July 13, 2015   |   Digesh Kapadia

This was my second year in a row that I attended the AWS Summit in NYC at Jacob Javits. The event coincided with the celebration of 80th birthday of his Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the same place, so in some aspect it was a blessed summit.

Just like last year, keynote Dr. Werner Vogels, Amazon’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), touched upon new services they are rolling out, from Elastic File Storage (EFS) to AWS Device Farm and developer tools including AWS CodeCommit, CodePipeline, CodeDeploy, and more. The pace of innovation that happens within Amazon goes to the core of empowerment culture they have created and nurtured, and it continues to flourish as they grow.

Never before in the history of technology have we had such a paradigm shift: we can now take an idea and/or prototype application from inception to a full blown business model and/or enterprise software in matter of months and for a fraction of a cost. Amazon is not only building a platform and an ecosystem via their AWS offering, they are empowering individuals to be innovators and entrepreneurs by leveling the playing field.

The center of gravity is shifting towards AWS and the question for business leaders and IT organizations is no longer whether they should be looking outwards but what are the internal roadblocks to get there. IntegriChain faces same cost and scalability hurdles as any other organizations as our market share grows within US healthcare commerce space.

Last year alone our systems processed well over $200+ billion of annual healthcare commerce, making us not only system of records but also system of engagement. Our customers rely on our cloud platform to be up and running 24/7, 365 days of the year. With AWS as being the market leader in cloud offering from cost, agility, innovation, and service reliability, we are evaluating how AWS fits into our overall architecture and how we might pass along those same values to our customers.
